There are three types of gas ignition modules. Direct Spark, Intermmittent Spark and Hot Surface. This is the most common and universal gas ignition module. This is a 117/120V direct spark ignition module with an internal sensor versus an external sensor. This unit senses the flame internally through measuring heat in ohms through the high voltage wire. If the unit has an external sensor; there would be one extra wire that sits in the flame assembly. The unit with an internal sensor can replace all units with an external sensor. This module is basically a lighter. It opens the gas valve; creates a spark that lights the pilot assembly. It also has the internal sensor that makes sure the flame is present therefore gas doesnt just flow. One of the main troubleshooting issues is the module stops detecting the flame. You can use this module to replace all 117/120V direct spark ignition modules. This module has a detachable wiring harness. The harness has only four wires; ground, neutral, hot and valve. This unit is the latest style. Its potted with an epoxy coating. It can mount anywhere. Although this unit has a spade connector; it can replace units with a post connection.
